To ensure safe operation, it is essential that Modulift’s modular spreaders are used in conjunction with the User Instructions provided. For other spreader beams, lifting beams, and other lifting solutions, please consult Modulift directly.

UK & Europe Compliance:

• BS2573: Rules for the Design of Cranes: Part 1: Spec. for classification, stress calcs and design criteria for structures.
• BS EN 1315 - 2003: Non fixed load lifting attachments.

USA Compliance:

• ASME B30.20 - 2010 for below-the-hook lifting devices, and ASME BTH -1: 2008; our spreader systems have a minimum safety factor of 3:1 on yield strength of the material.

Grade 8 Bolts:

Standard fasteners for connecting the components in Modulift Spreader Systems are grade 8.8 bolts, grade 8 nuts and form B washers. The function of the fasteners is to securely fasten the components together to form a single beam. In use; due to the ‘pin-ended strut’ design, the spreader beam itself is under a purely compressive load when the load is applied; and therefore, the fasteners are themselves not subjected to tensile or other loads.

Grade 8.8 bolts and grade 8 nuts, tightened to the recommended torque settings, are proven over many years of use to be a very safe and effective means of joining together the different components that make up Modulift Spreader System of all spans and capacities. We would recommend that fasteners are visually inspected by a competent person before use.

If fasteners used in the assembly of Modulift Spreader Beams are used correctly and stored in a good condition, there is no reason why they cannot be re-used time and again. If replacement fasteners are needed, they should be a minimum grade 8.8 bolt and grade 8 nut. Fasteners supplied by Modulift are also Bright Zinc Plated, which offers a degree of protection from the elements.
