Modulift Fastenings

Standard fasteners for connecting the components in Modulift Spreader Systems are generally Grade 8.8 HT Bolts, Grade 8 nuts and form B washers. The function of the fasteners is to securely fasten the components together to form a single Beam. In use, due to the unique Modulift design, the Spreader Beam itself is under a purely compressive load when the load is applied, and therefore the fasteners are themselves not subjected to tensile or other loads. The fasteners, however, are very important when the assembled Spreader Beam is lifted up, prior to the load being taken by the Spreader Beam.

Grade 8.8 bolts and grade 8 nuts, tightened to the recommended torque settings, are proven over many years of use to be a very safe and effective means of joining together the different components that make up Modulift Spreader Beams. We would recommend that fasteners are visually inspected by a competent person before each use.

If fasteners used in the assembly of Modulift Spreader Beams are used correctly and stored in a good condition, there is no reason why they cannot be re-used time and again. If replacement fasteners are needed, they should be a minimum Grade 8.8 bolt and Grade 8 nut. Fasteners supplied by Modulift are also Bright Zinc Plated, which offers a degree of protection from the elements.
