Frequently Asked Questions

What is a spreader frame?

Spreader frames are recommended for loads that have more than two lifting points; they can also be the ideal lifting equipment when headroom is limited. Modulift offer several types of spreader frames for multi-point lifts including the 4-, 6- or 8-point CMOD frame and the 3-point TrMOD spreader frame.

The Tri-MOD is a triangular frame which utilises the struts from the standard Modulift spreader beam range. The Tri-MOD is popular for many 3-point lift requirements including circular lifts.

The CMOD modular spreader frame. Allows for 4-, 6- and 8-point lifts. Lighter and stronger with newly designed corner units giving a 40% weight saving, the CMOD is designed to expand the capabilities of the modular Spreader Beam system - the struts from the spreader beam are combined with 4 corner units to complete the frame.

This spreader frame is also designed for where there are height restrictions, as the height of the rig will be lower than a ‘1 over 2’ rig.

The CMOD spreader frame is currently available from the CMOD 6 up to the CMOD 250. The systems will lift up to 300t.

Expanding on the very popular CMOD spreader frame, Modulift has designed and manufactured a T-Piece to further develop the capabilities of the CMOD spreader frame. This connection allows the frame to become a 6-point or 8-point spreader frame.

What is the purpose of a spreader frame?

Spreader frames are designed to lift various load types requiring more than two lifting points. They’re incredibly versatile and can be adjusted to multiple configurations, making them ideal for a range of lifting applications.

Do spreader beams, lifting beams, spreader frames and lifting frames need to be CE marked?

Regulations within the UK and EU markets require a conformity certificate to confirm compliance with relevant legislation for all lifting equipment.

Under these same regulations, the equipment should display a physical CE marking and/or a UKCA marking including the following details:

  • Manufacturer’s name and address
  • CE and/or UKCA mark
  • Series or type designation; serial number if applicable
  • Year of construction

The CE mark is to demonstrate compliance with the EU Machinery Directive, and is required on any lifting equipment being sold to the EU market.

The UKCA mark is to demonstrate compliance with the UK Product Safety & Metrology Regulations, and is required on any lifting equipment being sold to the UK market.
